Changes after audience Research

After reviewing our audience research, my group and I decided to base our media product in the thriller genre. This choice was guided by the results, which showed that thriller, mystery, and suspense were the most favoured genres among our target audience. More than half of the participants expressed a preference for mystery and suspense, confirming that keeping elements of this genre would be appealing to audience.

Since the audience showed strong interest in engaging storylines and unexpected plot twists, we chose to prioritise a well-developed narrative that gradually builds tension. Including surprising twists will help maintain audience interest and reflects a key convention of the thriller genre.

The research also highlighted the importance of sound in creating suspense. In response, we plan to use non-diegetic sound such as tense background music, along with strategic moments of silence, to enhance atmosphere and build anticipation.

Additionally, as a significant portion of our audience chose a female protagonist, we decided to focus on creating relatable characters with emotional depth, allowing viewers to connect more strongly with the story.

Conclusion:

Overall, our creative choices were strongly shaped by audience research. By selecting the thriller genre and emphasising suspense, mystery, sound design, and narrative twists, we aim to create a media product that both meets audience expectations and follows established thriller conventions.
